"The Perfect Pitch": Ten Things I learned from Steel

I am working on this project and have to go before a panel of people to present my idea; so my daughter suggested I read one of her books on how to "pitch".  Being an avid reader, I proceeded to read   Perfect pitch: the art of selling ideas and winning new business ,  written by Jon Steel - John Wiley& Sons - 2007 . After reading it, I found I learnt some valuable lessons and decided to share my condensed version. Basically, he states that the point of a presentation is to get you from point A to point B—where you are now to where you want to be. Once you have decided to do the presentation, it is no longer about what you want—if you really want what you want. From this point on, it is all about what the decision makers wants.  You have to think: a) WHY  do they want to hear from you, see you, or should be interested in anything that you have to say or do; and b) WHAT do they want to see and/or hear. So hear are the 10 things I learned:

THE ULTIMATE GAME OF LIFE:

Seven Simple Rules and the Four Key Players Success is the monopoly of life. Why you may ask? Because life is a virtual game. If you know and understand the rules and have key players on your side, you will succeed. That is, if you want it bad enough. In the Game Of Life there are seven simple and easy to follow rules and without further ado, here they are:

When a New Boss is Assigned a Dysfunctional Team: 5 Building Blocks of a Successful Leader

Dysfunctional :   Not operating normally;  Bad or poor social behaviour or judgment Team :   A group of people linked together for a common goal or purpose Now that we understand the meaning of these two crucial words, let's move on. Collaborating in a team can be daunting and frustrating,  to say the least, yet it is something we all must do and is virtually inescapable. Let's face it, everything we do is comprised of some sort of teamwork or the other:

GET OVER YOURSELF ALREADY AND BE AN OPPORTUNIST

Wondering how to get what you want? The difference between those who win and those who don't is that those who win will do what it takes to win, and the rest refuse to do the same. Let's face it: the only thing stopping you from getting what you want is you.   You say you want something – you want it so bad you can taste it…you daydream about it, you plan, you talk, you read, you write about it.   Yet when the opportunity presents itself, you fail to seize it.   You let yourself stand in the way of you and your goal—your golden opportunity.   Time and time again, you trip and stumble over yourself. You have to stop letting your inhibitions rob you of the things you want.   You may have to sacrifice your rules and your standards: they could be your worst enemies in terms of getting to where and what you want most in life.   If you want it bad enough, you have to seize it when the opportunity arises. But will it be worth it in the end? T...

HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS: Four simple questions and basic guidelines

What are goals:  Goals are a set of predetermined thoughts or ideas set about in one’s mind to be attained by a set period in time.  Something that is hoped to achieved with certain expectations and deadlines. In order to obtain balance in your life you must set goals. NO ORDER NO GOALS, NO GOALS NO GLORY, NO GLORY NO BALANCE.  Goal gives direction to your life and helps you live by purpose and not per chance.  To set goals, first ask yourself these 4 simple questions: What ?  What is it I want to accomplish? Why ? Why do I want this...you must have the right motives or it could backfire. When ?  Set a deadline...a time frame you think is reasonable...you don’t want to set yourself up for failure. How ?  How am I going to do this? Know your resources, brainstorm and research are the keys.  E.g.  I am going to save $500 by the end of this year so that I can go on my dream vacation.  I will save most of my allowances, or I...

When You Want to Quit

A while ago I came across this post, I found it so inspiring that this is the second time I am sharing it with my readers. Wednesday, 27 October 2010 10:58 AM EDT Shirley Arnold At times giving up may seem reasonable. But the nature of faith is seeing and doing the impossible. Everyone at one time or another has wanted to give up! Even Jesus wanted to give up when He faced the cross. Knowing His footsteps would soon lead Him to agony and shame, He asked the Father "'O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me'" (Matt. 26:39, NKJV). In essence, He was saying, If there is another way to accomplish Your will, Father, could we go with plan B? Jesus was faced with the choice of giving up or pressing on. It is the same choice we have all faced when circumstances have brought us to a place of giving up. We know that if we give up, we will be relieved of the pressure of the moment. And if we press on, we will continue to face all the obstacles that broug...

Branding

Life is a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of brands, from the carefully stitched labels on your clothing to the distinctive logos embellishing your cars, phones, and the products nestled in your grocery cart. Considering the undeniable allure and influence of brands, why not extend this concept to yourself? If brands have the power to captivate and sell, imagine harnessing that power for your own benefit. Picture being the most coveted item on everyone's wish list—eliciting admiration and desire wherever you go. Envision eyes widening with awe as you enter a room, leaving an indelible impression on those around you. Wouldn't it be enticing to have people intrigued by your presence, wondering about the secret behind your unique essence? Imagine walking past someone and inspiring thoughts like, "I want to exude that kind of confidence, sound as articulate, move with that grace, and exude a captivating aura." So, consider this: What brand would you choose to embody, ...
