Seven Tips For Successful Resume Writing

Seven tips for successful resume writing; arm in sweater holding a pen writing; aggiestrong logo September is a brand new start for brand new opportunities. No wonder many of us are busy writing and revamping our resumes as new windows of opportunities open up. But, resumes can be tricky and painstaking. What should I add, what should I take out, and what not to include are some of the few questions I come across. What I often tell my clients is to make it as personal as possible. Your resume should not look or sound like anybody else's. The same way you were created with unique features is the same way you should treat your resume. Subsequently, I put together my seven best practices.

BACK TO SCHOOL ROOM ESSENTIALS FOR A CLUTTER-FREE AND ORGANIZED SPACE

Well, back to school is upon us; and not only do we have to think of pens and books and all the other cool stuff, we also have to think organized, clean, and eco-friendly too. Whether your child lives at home or in a dorm room, we all know, nothing creates chaos, heightens stress, induces procrastination, waste time, and more dysfunction like a cluttered and unorganized space. These tips and essentials will help you minimize all that and get your day and night off to a great start, from floor to ceiling, closets and in between. Think clean, tidy, and essentials only. Walls: Wall are great ways to utilize your space and get maximum storage.  Think vertical.  Keep walls clean and bright with a fresh coat of paint in child's favorite color that is toxic free. This will create a healthier environment and lungs and trigger fewer headaches.  Which in turn encourages your son or daughter to stay focused.  Keep walls to a bare minimum; with maybe only one or two good paintings

10 MUST DO THINGS BEFORE SUMMER ENDS

Beach with large rock and an umbrella chair on the sand, aggiestrong logo Have you noticed that we have had little or no summer weather this year? I can practically count the number of really warm, sunny summer days on my fingers.   But I guess we have to be thankful. According to the Toronto Metro, this has been the first smog-free summer we’ve had.   Well, with only a few short days left to the “unofficial” end of summer, I have to say, summer was M.I.A (missing in action) this year with only a few short days of heat and yes, humidity. For the most part, summer runs from the last week of May , following the Victoria Day/Memorial Day long weekend (in Canada and America), and spans over to the first week of September which is the Labour Day long weekend; and also the last weekend before back-to-school. However, seasonally, summer officially begins on June 21 st (my daughter’s birthday and sometimes father’s day) and spans to September 22 .   Summer is a time for freedom, f

The Keys to Better Interpersonal Relationships

The keys to better interpersonal relationship: a group of young people harmoniously working on a laptop, aggiestrong logo I think it is safe to say that we all want to experience great relationships—that's a given, right?... Be it at work, at school, at home, in the bedroom, or in the social arenas of life. This is something we all crave—better relationships on any level to a greater or lesser degree. Understanding of Humanity Having great relationships is the essence of our happiness and humanity. Why? Because we were not created to be alone. From the beginning of time, God saw and said that it was not good for man to be alone so He made a helpmate for him. Why then do we have so much trouble getting along with each other?  Why do we toy with each other’s feelings and emotions? Is it because we lack the understanding that, despite the fact, we are all humans, we are vastly different? That we don't think the same way.  That we act and react to different s

How to Get the Life You Want:

According to Stephen Covey, in his book 7 Habits of Highly Effectively People,  in order to be successful and live the life you want, you must " put first things first" .  A pretty old saying if you ask me.  Something my own parents or grandparents have said for decades.  Now I am going to tell you the same thing again.

Do you feel stuck in a rut? Do you find that you are always cooped up inside your home or buried in work at the office all the time? Are you carrying work home? Are your bills stressing you out? Worried about your bank account balance? Stop! Worry no longer — take notes from the people living a happier, more contented life, breathe easy, and relax! Here are ten tips to help you along: self portrait standing on porch by hammock 1. Simplify your lifestyle. Don't get involved in too many things all at once, especially if you find yourself dreading your next activity instead of looking forward to it — find things you enjoy and can look forward to doing. It's ok to say no. Life is simple, don't complicate it. 2. Get organized. Take time out to reorganize your space, activities

Be Leery of the Calm

Yes, the old adage, "keep calm and carry on", but if you are a passionate person, stay clear of those who like to tout their calmness. They will irk the hell out of you and get away with it. Calm people very rarely get their feathers ruffled. They are the emotional instigators of life—button pushers, if you will. They know that they can keep their emotions in check and not get too riled up about any situation. One thing you must know about calm people , they are not afraid to put your emotions to the test—and then have the nerve to tell you to stay calm. They are always so seemingly innocent, calm and peaceful on the outside, while twisting the knife on the inside. Basically, they focus on the “inside job” of how to make others’ lives miserable, especially those who are passionate or emotionally charged. You see, most calm people are often very insecure bullies wanting to prove themselves at your expens e. They want the world to believe that they are a better pe

Journey of Self: Who Are You?

How do you begin to answer this question? Do you begin with your name, relations, occupation, achievements, life status or family lineage? How about sexual, spiritual or solar orientation? No? Then you must be your race, creed, nationality, or background? Right?... So, if none of those define you, tell me... do you really, truly and honestly know who you are? How might you begin to find out? As individuals we have so many intricacies and facets to our lives that if we have not consciously taken the time to find out who we are, we could be living a lie or someone else idea of who we are. I know, I know...I can hear the protest loud and clear: "I know who I am." But really, do you? I have news for you. What you do and where you came from are NOT you!  That's right, it is an extension of who you are, but it certainly isn't you in its entirety. You were who you are, long before you learned how to walk, talk, read, or write. Long before your passed or cu

Status Update

Lord, I thank you for allowing me to live to see this day!! Oh, what a glorious day it is!! For the last 23 years of my life I have been a single parent or single mother, but thank you, Lord, today I can officially declare that I am just Single! While I will be forever their mother, I no longer have to mother them. I am so glad to see both my children come to this stage in their journey of life where they no longer need to parent them and I am so glad to take on my new role as a partner in their destiny!! It has definitely been a long rugged road that I somehow managed to have it look envious, but so far from it. My children and I have been through a lot, but we have managed to keep it together and come out more refined every time. Even though we have not had a lot of support we learned to lean on each other and embrace our flaws! So to my two beautiful, talented, smart, brave, and strong young ladies, hats off to your future and mine...big things are about to happen! I can fe

AUTONOMY: What is it?

Have you ever wondered what it is like to have full and total control over your life? What would it look or feel like to have no one to tell you when to come or go? When to get out of bed or when to go to bed? When to do what or how to do it? That is what autonomy looks and feels like. Total freedom and independence to do what you want to when and how you want to. Autonomy is to be the author and narrator of your life and driver of your own destiny. It is having full control and authority over everything you do, through God's grace and mercy, of course. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13. Autonomy at its core is being independent, self-directed, decisive, self-aware, collaborative and self-motivated. Autonomy basic radical Independence When individuals are allowed full or even some degree of freedom and flexibility, especially in their work/career, that leads to autonomy on the job. When people experience autonomy in t
