How to "Beat the Heat"

Aggiestrong blog post title: How to beat the heat

With the increasing rise of "Global Warming", we are facing greater and greater health risks from the effects of unpredictable climate change. These changes are occurring more frequently and abruptly as a result of such things as increased industrial pollution and automobile exhaust. When the temperature is about to get extremely hot, a "Heat Alert" is issued by the government warning us to protect ourselves from the extreme heat. This  means we could face a higher number of heat-related illnesses and mortality than normally expected, on a typical summer's day if precautions are not taken.

In order to beat the heat and stay cool, calm, collected, alive and well, here are a few simple but necessary precautions to exercise:
  • Take advantage of air conditioned shopping malls, local libraries and neighbourhood community centres as places to cool off—this is the time to use your A/C if you have one.
  • Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of cool water frequently and snacking on fruits and vegetables—do not wait until you are thirsty—the heat can drain your energy and aggravate your mood. Staying hydrated will keep your body cool, boost your energy and elevate your mood and cognitive function.
  • Take cool showers/baths and use a cool, damped towel to cool down throughout the day.
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored, breathable clothing—white long-sleeved T-shirt if possible.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors or use an umbrella for extra shade and protection from the sun and heat.
  • Lather up with sunscreen protection at least 30 minutes before you head out and reapply as needed.
  • Try to schedule outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day, if at all possible.
  • Check up on families, friends and neighbours who are isolated and/or physically and/or emotionally challenged/impaired to make sure they are well hydrated and ventilated and never leave them unattended in a car; especially with the windows closed.
Beating the heat is no easy feat. Protect your skin from harmful UV rays and your lungs and heart from damaging pollutions. Remember, high air pollution and extremely hot weather conditions often go hand-in-hand. If you suffer from heart problems and/or lung conditions, or seasonal allergies, you need to pay special attention to the "Air Quality Health Index" forecasts and administer medication beforehand as a precaution.

A time when the symphony of nature is at its peak, with each element - from the gentle rustle of leaves to the melodious chirping of birds - contributing its unique note. The Pulse of Nature: Vibration At the heart of this symphony is the concept of vibration. Embracing Joy In 2024: A Liberation from the Chains of Comparison

"Comparison is the thief of joy." - Theodore Roosevelt As we embark on 2024, adorned with resolutions, the warmth of the new year, and the promise of joy, it's essential to reflect on the profound wisdom in Theodore Roosevelt's timeless quote. In a world steeped with social media highlight reels and the constant urge to keep up with the Kardashians, this sentiment is more relevant than ever.  Instead of appreciating our unique journey and the progress we have made, comparison shifts our attention to external standards that may not align with our authentic desires and values. It creates a never-ending cycle of seeking validation and trying to measure up to an ideal that may not be genuinely fulfilling. The Origin of the Quote: The words "Comparison is the thief of joy" is a profound and insightful quote often attributed to Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, a man known for his wisdom and insights into human nature.
