My Post-Thanksgiving Dinner: A Change of Tradition

Traditionally, I've spent every Thanksgiving preparing a grand homemade Caribbean feast featuring oxtail stew, curry goat, ham, salmon, rice and peas, potato salad, pasta salad, carrot juice, and more. However, this year, I decided to take my own advice from my blog post, " 12 Meaningful Ways to Celebrate Thanksgiving When You Don't Feel Like It. " The high cost of groceries, the exhaustion from cooking, and the fact that my daughters had different food preferences led me to skip the cooking altogether and opt for takeout. I ordered from two different restaurants to satisfy everyone's tastes. The combined total costs: 127.25, for a family of four without the muss and fuss. From our favourite Chinese Restaurant, I ordered dishes like Chinese garlic broccoli, mushroom fried rice, Shanghai noodles, breaded shrimps, and Caribbean fried chicken to add a bit of flair to the feast.  For festivity and variety, I also ordered from "Swiss Chalet," selecting their...

Twelve Meaningful Ways To Celebrate Thanksgiving When You Don't Feel Like It

Celebrating Thanksgiving when you're not in the mood or are feeling isolated can be challenging and, indeed, a test of resilience. However, there are several meaningful ways to navigate these challenges and still find joy in the holiday. Gratitude Journal: Amidst the whirlwind of negative emotions, take a moment to reflect on the positives in your life. Writing in your gratitude journal is a great place to start. Here, you may jot down the things you're thankful for, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they may appear to be. This practice can shift your focus from what's missing to what you have. Volunteer: Consider extending a helping hand to those less fortunate in your community. Volunteering at a local shelter or food bank provides vital assistance to others and can significantly boost your mood. This small act of kindness can remind you of the impact you can make in the world. Virtual Gatherings: If you find yourself physically distant from loved ones, embra...

Nazi in the House: Who is to be Blamed?

Speaking as a concerned citizen of Canada 🇨🇦,  Pierre Poilievre pushing this issue and politicizing it for his apparent political gain is bringing more public and international disgrace to Canada than anyone else. He and his conservative caucus should remember this is the office they are fighting for, and what goes around comes around. Trying to shift the onus from Speaker Anthony Rota to PM Justin Trudeau is unfair and unintelligent, making the situation more hurtful and harmful. Notwithstanding, I believe that Rota should resign as he has. If Rota knew that 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka (shown in title image) fought for Ukraine 🇺🇦 in WWII, he should have known or ought to have known which side he fought for and that he is, in fact, a Nazi. Given the guest of honour, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a President at war with Russia 🇷🇺 and a Jew, Rota should have thoroughly vetted the war vet. He would have realized that he was not worthy to be in the presence of the House of Parliament 🇨🇦....

Eight Tips For Successful Resume Writing

Are you looking to shake things up in your career? September is the perfect time to shine! So, take action and revamp your resume. While crafting a winning resume can be challenging, you can accomplish it with a keen eye for detail and a little extra time and effort. It's easy to get bogged down with questions about what to include or leave out, and how to stand out from the crowd. My advice to clients is straightforward: personalize it. While job titles and duties may be similar across similar occupations, it's your unique qualities that make you stand out. Just like we all have our own individual features, your resume should reflect your individuality. Here are seven best practices to help you achieve this. 1. Your Name To ensure your name gets noticed, it's crucial to use a bold font and keep it slightly larger than the rest of the content. This will help attract attention to your name and ensure it is noticed, among other details. 2. Home Address As I always advised my ...

The Incongruency of Mind, Heart, and Body: Understanding the Brain-Heart-Body Connection

Today, we dive deep into the fascinating world of the brain-heart-body connection. Have you ever wondered why people often say one thing but do something completely different? Join us as we explore the intricacies of the three-brain system that governs our thoughts, emotions, and actions. The Conscious, Subconscious and Unconscious Mind At the core of our being, we possess three interconnected yet distinct aspects of the mind: the conscious, subconscious and the unconscious. The conscious mind represents our rational thinking, decision-making, and logical reasoning. It is the part of our brain that is responsible for all our executive functions that we can actively control. On the other hand, the subconscious mind operates beneath our conscious awareness as a barrier between the conscious and unconscious. It helps us remember mundane things: how to speak and act automatically, such as waking up, going to the bathroom and saying good morning. Then there is the unconscious part of the mi...
